Shut Up! at school
This year, schools are joining in on Shut Up for MND: Challenges Edition!
A fun, team-based campaign that raises funds and awareness for people living with motor neurone disease (MND).
Students will take on a series of silent challenges that are as entertaining as they are eye opening. By giving up their voices, they’ll experience what many people living with MND face daily, while raising vital funds for care and support services.
MND attacks the nerves that control our body movement so the messages from our brain can't get through to the muscles that help us to move, speak, swallow and breathe. Many people living with MND lose their ability to speak, which is why we are Shutting Up!
Why get your SCHOOL involved?
Getting your school involved in the Shut Up! For MND: Challenges Edition means you are all helping raise awareness about MND. Funds raised go towards care and support services for those living with MND now.
With your Challenge Card Deck, students will learn and face communication challenges faced by many of those living with MND, helping grow a greater understanding of the disease.
This challenge brings us together, uniting students, teachers, and parents to grow a deeper understanding of MND.
Our education resources help both students and teachers to learn about motor neurone disease.
How to embrace the challenges
With the Shut Up! For MND: Challenges Edition, classrooms can turn silence into creativity, teamwork, and fun. Students and teachers can take on a variety of silent challenges from the Challenge Deck with every challenge being a glimpse into what many people with MND face daily – losing their voice and finding new ways to connect.
- Everyday moments – Such as expressing your gratitude
- Team tests – Running a silent group activity or providing instruction
- Fun challenges – Mime a song, nominate someone to do a challenge for you, choose length of time to stay silent for!
Every class will experience the challenge in a different way – but all will come away with new skills, stronger teamwork, and a deeper understanding of what it’s like for those with MND to be without a voice.
