My dear brother had MND for 17 years, and had no voice for 12 of them. With no voice Duncan was on the board for MND VIC, played board games, train carers, discussed the latest theatre show or movie he had seen, life admin (that's a lot when your dealing with NDIS), studied towards a PHD and more meaningful for him, maintained relationships with his friends and family. I always admired the way Duncan would learn communication tools to ensure he was able to interact with others. Duncan learnt many ways to communicate over the years but the most valuable was the eye gaze technology. This was a game changer for Duncan, his wife, family, friends and care team. It meant he was able to have independence and clearly communicate what was on his mind - which was always important to Duncan - whether we wanted to hear it or not My aim is to raise money for MND Victoria to assist people with MND to have equipment to help them communicate and gain the independence that they deserve. I have chosen to ShutUp on Tuesday 17th September from 8am-8pm, for 12 hours This is going to be a challenge, as I will be working and raising my two children (5 and 2 years of age). It's hard to get the children to daycare and school with a voice let alone without one I will share my journey with you all, as I know Duncan would have loved to have heard how the day went. Duncan passed away in February this year.

I am fined 2 everytime I speak today. So far I owe 6 - I said sorry to a colleague and swore in the car
The hardest part about today so far is not singing in the car on the way to work
6 hours down and 6 hours to go I am nearly at 2k - can I get there by the time I finish work in a couple of hours
