Why are we fundraising

We are choosing to go without our voice in support of those who have lost theirs to Motor Neurone Disease (MND). MND is a devastating and isolating disease that slowly takes away a persons ability to move, speak, swallow, and eventually breathe all while their mind remains sharp and fully aware. One of the most heartbreaking parts of MND is the loss of speech. When someone you love can no longer speak, it becomes incredibly difficult to connect in the ways you once did a daily reminder of everything the disease is stealing. We know this all too well through our fierce and beautiful friend/mother/family member, Shirley, who is currently living with MND. Watching her navigate this disease with strength and dignity inspires us every day. Her voice may be fading, but her spirit never will. Throughout her journey, MND Victoria has been a lifeline providing practical support, essential equipment, compassionate guidance, and a sense of connection during an incredibly isolating time. Their care makes a real difference, not just for people like Shirley, but for the families and friends who stand beside them. For over 44 years, MND Victoria has supported every Victorian living with MND at no cost to the person living with the disease. Thats why were taking part in the Shut Up Challenge to raise funds and awareness so that MND Victoria can continue to be there for every family who needs them. Going silent for a day is a small gesture, but it represents something far bigger standing with those who cant speak for themselves, and giving back some of the kindness and strength weve received.
