Challenge accepted Im choosing to go without my voice in support of those who have lost theirs to Motor Neurone Disease (MND) including my partners mum, Shirley. MND is a cruel and isolating disease. It slowly takes away the ability to move, speak, eat, and breathe all while the persons mind remains completely intact. Losing the ability to speak is especially heartbreaking. Conversations fade. Jokes, stories, and even simple I love yous become harder to share. It changes the way we connect with the people we love. My partners mum is facing this disease with so much strength, but its not easy. Ive seen firsthand how overwhelming and emotionally draining MND can be not just for the person living with it, but for the whole family. Thats where MND Victoria has made such a difference. They help us keep Shirley safe and comfortable at home with essential equipment and care support. Theyve helped us find new ways to stay connected even when speech becomes difficult. And just as importantly, they support carers like me offering guidance, counselling, practical help, and a sense of not being alone in this incredibly tough journey. Their support gives us room to breathe, to cope, and to care for Shirley with dignity and love. Thats why Im taking part in the Shut Up Challenge to raise awareness and funds so MND Victoria can keep doing this vital work for families like mine across the state. Please support me if you can in honour of my Shirley, and all the families living with the weight of MND. Your generosity helps provide care, dignity, and connection where its needed most.
